Let us provoke one another to love and good deeds
How often do you see a request in game chat from someone wanting to start a solo fleet and needs at least four others to assist in meeting the requirements? The request usually comes with an explicit request for those four others to leave the fleet once it is formed.
These requests stun me in the world of MMORPG gaming. Admittedly, the Ancient Trinity Disciples is the first guild/fleet I have participated in no matter how you slice it, and Star Trek Online is the first true on-line gaming experience I have enjoyed.
For context, I was historically a solo gamer discouraged by the necessary evil of PC and console games requiring on-line participation in missions, tasks, and upgrades. Whether it was adventure games or side-scrolling arcade games, my roots are in solo gameplay. Those games, initially styled for solo gameplay, adapted with technology to incorporate an increased emphasis on on-line play - even cooperative gameplay with someone sitting next to you on the couch gave way to strictly on-line collaborative gameplay.
Star Trek Online is intentionally different. While solo gameplay narratives are available, STO is intended for on-line collaboration that improves the experience of missions, tasks, and upgrades. Let us face this reality as well: a single player progressing a fleet to the point of the desired resources is near impossible. To each his own, however; Star Trek Online has that capability for a single player to sustain a fleet for as long as he or she wants, and some gamers still prefer the control of their own gaming experience. Who am I to judge that preference?
The Ancient Trinity Disciples is also intentionally different. Because of our common faith, we desire the fellowship that comes from the social aspect of a guild/fleet in on-line gameplay. Our purpose and members seek to emulate Paul's instructions in Hebrews 10:24-25:
And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Accordingly, the Ancient Trinity Disciples has increased our "meeting together" from monthly officer meetings to biweekly collaborative TFO events and meet-and-greets; we encourage one another in the study of the Word in monthly devotionals (which will soon be expanded for further discussion via the fleet site); we provoke one another to share the Gospel; and we share our troubles and trials via Discord and offer prayers of support.
As the fleet will assuredly grow, the organic development that will come from the combination of traditional MMORPG guild growth and the tenets of our faith will be exciting to experience - so long as we do not deviate from our purposes as a fleet: fellowship, collaboration, and evangelism. So far, the Ancient Trinity Disciples is right on point.
